Bolide fragmentation: What parts of asteroid 2008 <scp> TC <sub>3</sub> </scp> survived to the ground?

Abstract Asteroid 2008 TC 3 impacted the Earth's atmosphere with a known shape and orientation. Over 600 meteorites were recovered at recorded locations, including of nonureilite type. From where in asteroid did these stones originate? Here, we reconstruct meteor lightcurve study breakup dynamics 3‐D hydrodynamic modeling. Two fragmentation regimes are found that explain strewn field. As long as created wake vacuum, fragments tended to move into shadow, they mixed small relative velocities surviving fell along narrow strip on ground. But when part backside bottom finally collapsed 33 km altitude, it an end flare dust cloud, while dispersed radially much higher speed due shock–shock interactions distorted shock front. Stones originated this final collapse survive larger size over wider area locations Those some extent still trace back fragment's original position asteroid. We classified from “large mass” used information glean insight location ureilites ordinary enstatite chondrites .
